
Kenjiro (Ken) Watanabe
Ken joined MGI in June 2026 as President & CEO. He also serves as Co-Managing Partner of E12 Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital fund focused on early-stage technology investments.
He is responsible for all aspects of MGI’s and E12’s investment activities and portfolio management.
Prior to joining MGI, Ken was a General Manager at Mitsui & Co., Ltd., where he oversaw the private equity and capital solutions businesses, including investments in buyout funds and leasing ventures across Japan, Asia, and Europe.
Over his 20-year career at Mitsui, Ken has developed extensive experience in venture capital, private equity, and cross-border M&A. During his tenure at MGI’s Beijing office, he focused on venture capital investments and portfolio management in China. He later played a key role in launching a Southeast Asia and Greater China-focused private equity fund in partnership with Advantage Partners, serving as Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee. Most recently, he led large-scale cross-border acquisitions in Mitsui’s Nutri-Science business.
Ken holds an M.S. in Science & Engineering from Waseda University and an EMBA from Peking University. He is fluent in Chinese.
